Plot : Directed by Claire Denis, “White Material” is an intense drama, which revolves around an ordinary middle-class family. Maria, her husband and their son constitutes the members of the loving family of peasants, who find utter satisfaction in taking care of coffee plantation. Although the plantation doesn’t yield much profit to them, they treat it with care & affection due to the attachment that’s been developed in their hearts during the years. They all are pretty satisfied with what they’ve got, but one day, their happiness gets inflicted with tension and anxiety as a civil war breaks out in the unnamed terrains of that African village to play havoc with the lives of all. Further, White Material video illustrates that rebel soldiers, including children as well, starts advancing towards the village with an intention to attack the innocent residents. After hearing an alert on radio regarding this, Maria’s workers decide to leave the town. But this doesn’t result in affecting Maria’s love for her farms and she starts looking for other people to continue with the harvesting of coffee seeds. It gives birth to numerous anxiety-filled moments in her personal relationships and that with other community people.
