Lynne Ramsay’s film, based on Lionel Shriver’s eponymic novel, explores the emotional turmoil experienced by a mother. She is deemed guilty of upbringing her son in a manner that he turned into a serial killer, responsible for killing his father, sister and a high-school massacre. Kevin Katchadourian is a teenager played by Ezra Miller, who is imprisoned for a high massacre and two murders at home. His mother Eva, puts up at a run-down residence, and works at a mall-travel agency located near the prison, visiting Kevin from time to time. Watch We Need to Talk About Kevin online to find a mother grappling under the guilt of sculpting a murderer out of her son. Flashbacks into Kevin’s past-life aid her retrospect into events that led to inculcate a desire within Kevin to hurt others. She remembers how difficult it was to handle a socially detached Kevin as a child. It all started when Kevin was a baby. His tears rarely ceased, it was difficult to impart him toilet-training, he reacted violently when bathed with affection, and it seemed that he wasn’t interested in anything at all. When Eva failed to handle her son with love, she threw him against the wall, breaking his arm! Her husband, Frank, used to come up with a new excuse to save Kevin from her relentless accusations.. All this injects more fear in Eva, who, somehow, could sense the joy her son derived from showering pain on others. Eventually, her worst fears come true, when Kevin is sentenced. The film ends on the second anniversary of the crime, as Eva meets a Kevin, anxious about his 18th birthday and his transfer to an adult-prison. She asks her the reason behind his act, only to be left with an answer that he no more knows the reason.
