Plot : Based on the novel, ‘Our Father Who Art in the Tree’, by Australian writer Judy Pascoe, The Tree is an emotionally-trenchant story of a well-knit family that falls apart when their father dies. Dawn and Peter O’Neill and their four lovely children, three boys and a girl, paint the perfect picture of a beautiful family. They live in their cozy country home, where the children play in the ancient garden under their favorite fig tree, which has gone on to become as much a part of the family as the house they live in. When Peter gets a heart attack, and drives the car into the fig tree, crashing into it, he dies leaving behind a distressed wife and shocked children. Dawn tries to pick up the broken pieces, realizing that she has no other option other than bravely bringing up her little ones. But the pain is impossible to live with, and she longs for a ray of hope. She finally gets one when her little daughter, Simone, shares an uncanny secret with her one day. 8-year-old Simone believes that her father still exists in the tree, and claims that she can hear him whispering to her. Dawn finds comfort in the thought of her husband still watching over them, and begins to hold her own secret conversations with the tree. That is until George, the plumber, comes into her life, and she develops an instant attraction towards him. George brings with him the terrible news that they must cut down the tree since its roots are beginning to shake their house’s foundations. Simone is deeply disturbed by the prospect, and climbs up on the tree refusing to allow it to be cut.
