Plot : Back in 700 AD, Merlin (James A. Stephens), the greatest sorcerer ever, takes in 3 apprentices, Balthazar Blake (Nicholas Cage), Veronica (Monica Bellucci) and Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina), and teaches them the art of magic and spells. They are sworn to protecting the secrets of sorcerers, but Merlin is betrayed by Horvath, to his sworn enemy, Morgana (Alice Krige). Morgana and Horvath try to learn the spells from the big book to awaken the dead. Merlin fights them, but is overpowered and slain in the process, before Balthazar and Veronica are able to help him. His faithful pupils then fight Morgana, who begins to possess Veronica, and both are then imprisoned by Balthazar in Grimhold, a nesting doll. Merlin discloses that his successor, the prime-merlinian, would be born, and he would be able to defeat and destroy Morgana. Cut to modern day Manhattan, where we see Balthazar searching for the prime-merlinian. In the meantime, he has managed to capture Horvath and some other sorcerers, and imprisoned them in the Grimhold. He finds a seemingly average guy, Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel), and takes him in as his apprentice. Dave is a reluctant recruit, and wants a normal life with the girl he loves but cannot escape his destiny. Horvath escapes from the Grimhold, during Balthazar’s first attempt to recruit Dave. The second time round, i.e., 10 years later; Balthazar gives the reluctant Dave, a crash course in sorcery. Watch ‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice’ to see the master and his reluctant pupil save the city, their women and destroy the evil forces.
