Plot : The Messenger is R rated drama film that Marks the directorial debut of Oren Moverman. The movie is about a returned war soldier who struggles to come back to a normal life. Will Montgomery (Ben Foster) has just recovered from the injuries that he got while fighting in Iraq. He has very less time left in service and his girlfriend (Jena Malone) has left him. To start afresh with his job he is assigned the work at Army’s Casualty Notification Service. He along with his fellow officer Tony Stone must carry the bad news to the families of the deceased soldiers. Looking for the much needed stability in their lives a strong bond of understanding develops between both of them as they work together. Reeling under the pressure to complete his mission, Will develops attraction towards Olivia (Samantha Morton) whose husband was one of the deceased. Now he is in an ethical dilemma that provides a humorous and surprising turn to the previously serious storyline. The movie depicts the aspects of grief, survival and friendship at its best in the backdrop of Army life.
