Plot : A group of men with clown masks rob a bank in Gotham City, where the mafia keeps most of their money. They then turn upon each other, in a bid to get higher shares of the booty. The last remaining man reveals himself as the ‘Joker’ (Heath Ledger) and has a face painted like a joker. A year after Batman/ Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) started his mission to rid the city of the mafia underworld, he and Lt. Gordon (Gary Oldman) work on a plan to completely eradicate the city of the mob. They decide to include the new District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) in their fragile, unofficial alliance against the mafia, finding him to not be corrupt. Dent is also dating Wayne’s childhood sweetheart, Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal). They begin raids on some banks that hold mafia money. Lau, the mafia’s accountant, while escaping to Hong Kong, tells the mob members that their money is safely kept in another place. The Joker barges into the mob meeting and offers to kill Batman, in return of half of the mob’s money. They laugh him off and one of them offers a bounty on the Joker’s head. Batman, who is initially not concerned about one criminal, is forced to take note of and fight the Joker, as he goes about creating havoc in the city. This movie won Heath Ledger an Oscar for his portrayal of the Joker, and it is a must watch.
