Plot : A terrorist attack kills an American envoy in a foreign country. When investigations are conducted, an Egyptian, Anwar El-Ibrahimi (Omar Metwally), who has been living in the US for several years, is suspected to have a hand in the attacks. Anwar is a chemical engineer who lives in Chicago with his pregnant American wife and child. He is arrested when he is returning from South Africa after attending a conference. He is taken to a secret detention center and tortured while interrogation. His pregnant wife Isabella (Reese Witherspoon) is unaware of his whereabouts and tries to locate him. She is helped by a CIA analyst Douglas Freeman (Jake Gyllenhaal) who is assigned the task of viewing the proceedings of Anwar’s interrogations, as there is shortage of staff. On interrogating Anwar, Freeman finds that he is innocent. Then he, along with Isabella gets involved in a struggle to get Anwar released from the secret detention facility. Another story runs parallel, in which the daughter of Abasi (the target of suicide bomber) runs away to marry her beloved Khalid who is actually a terrorist.
