Plot : Public Enemy Number 1, directed by Jean-François Richet, is the second part of the movie based on the life of the French gangster Jacques Mesrine. The story picks up from where it was left in the first part, named Death Instinct and covers the life of Mesrine (Vincent Cassel) from 1973-79. With Mesrine in official custody in 1973, he faces the accusation of being aware of Michel Ardouin (Samuel LeBihan), another equally brutal and frightening mobster. However, Mesrine uncompromisingly denies the charge. Later, he makes a daring escape and it seems that he has evolved into a legend of his own times as well as his own making. He insistently feeds his own self-myth by committing a series of outrageous criminal acts. But he dethroned when he is ambushed unexpectedly and lethally, by the Parisian police near his place of birth. It later becomes known that both the escape and the soot-out had been planned beforehand by the cops, revealing the depth of deception to which Mesrine was exposed.
