Plot : No One Knows about Persian Cats is a 2009 Persian film directed by Bahman Ghobadi. He sets out to make a film focused on Tehran’s underground rock scene. He might, quite reasonably, have expected to stir up some controversy. However, it must have come as a shock to be publicly denounced by his friend and colleague Abbas Kiarostami. The film features young Tehran Indo-rock musicians essentially playing themselves. The bulk of the narrative plays out as a sequence of vignettes as the duo of Negar and Ashkan (real-life partners Negar Shagahi and Ashkan Kooshanejad). The story revolves around a boy and a girl. They plan to release a music album immediately after they are released from the prison. Forbidden by the authorities to play in Iran, they plan their escape abroad with a fast-talking music promoter. While traveling, they come across a heavy metal band, an older classic rock outfit and various less classifiable performers. Promising to play one last show before leaving Tehran, their dangerous mission takes them on a free—wheeling journey through the City's vibrant and diverse underground scene.
