Plot : In his own words, he was too old to be a beatnik and too young to be a hippie. But he was no one except Ken Kesey; one of the most fondly remembered counter-cultural heroes of the 20th century. Magic Trip takes a trip down memory lane, and comes up with a version of the legendary road trip that Kesey and his group of friends, the Merry Pranksters, took across the heart of America in a colorful school bus they fondly called as ‘Furthur’. In 1964, Kesey had decided that writing with just a pen was not enough, so he and his now legendary group of friends that included Neal Cassady, Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg covered their entire road trip with cameras. Unfortunately, the resulting footage was grainy, poorly shot and out of focus, but Magic Trip has painfully recreated that road trip with the help of the original shots and some painstakingly hard editing. The Pranksters took the trip from La Honda, California to the World’s Fair in New York. They also took loads of the psychedelic drug LSD, which was legal at that time. They went on a joyride across America, were joined by new mates and handed out LSD to anyone who wanted it. The movie captures the LSD experiences of Kesey and his friends with an elucidative ease, so that even the younger viewers are able to enjoy the unraveling of the 60s and the hippie era, without too much fuss. There is a lot to be written about Magic Trip, but the best way to enjoy this montage is to watch Magic Trip online.
