Plot : Kabei is a drama, directed by Yôji Yamada and is based on Teruyo Nogami’s childhood conveying an eternal message of peace. In the 1940’s, an outspoken man, Professor Shigeru Nogami (Mitsugoro Bando) is imprisoned and accused of being a communist for speaking against the Japanese invasion of China. His devoted wife Kayo (Sayuri Yoshinaga) is left to single handedly take care of the couple's two young daughters. Works from morning to night to sustain the household she is assisted by the clumsy but well-meaning Yamasaki (Tadanobu Asano), who is a former student of professor Nogami, as well as the professor’s sister Hisako. Both of them leave no stone unturned to make sure that the Nogami family receives proper care until the time professor is freed from jail. With her husband still in jail and the outbreak of WWII, Kayo keeps up her cheerful determination and love to keep her family going.
