Plot : Directed by Mercedes Álvarez, El Cielo gira is a documentary film about Mercedes’ personal and intimate journey to her birthplace. It revolves around the life of the people in a small village in Northern Spain where Mercedes was born. The film cinematographically focuses, on the platonic concept and nature of a place which is exemplified by that village. The way the film has been shot, reminds us of the brilliant impressionist painters. It explores the manner in which the image of a locality is painted on surfaces and which keeps on changing with the passage of time. The documentary centers on a small community that is on the verge of collapse and is redeemed and restored at the very last moment by a group of immigrants.
