Plot : ‘Eastern Promises’ is a mystery drama directed by David Cronenberg. A Russian pregnant teenager, Tatiana, gives birth to a child at the cost of her life. Another Russian descendant, Anna Khitrova, decides to deliver the baby to her family after finding Tatiana’s diary written in Russian language. Being unaware of the Russian language, she asks her uncle Stepan to translate it for her. In spite of her uncle’s refusal to interpret the document, Anna gets hints after finding a card of a restaurant owned by the Russian Semyon inside the document. This leads Anna to a contact with Tatiana’s family. Semyon, the dangerous boss of “Vory v Zakone”, instantly offers to translate the document after knowing the existence of the diary. Although, Anna’s uncle (Stepan) translates part of the diary and discovers that Semyon and his sick son Kirrill, raped Tatiana, when she was fourteen. They forced her to work as a prostitute in their brothel. Meanwhile, Nikolai Luzhin, a driver with the Russian mafia, ensures that the Eastern Promises video allows us to witness a revengeful fight, where Semyon and Kirrill are endangered and Anna, her family and the baby are helped.
