Plot : This Rachid Bouchareb directed movie begins with the recruitment of indigenes into French First Army, which is formed with the aim to release France from Nazi occupation during World War II. In the 7th battalion controlled by strong Sergeant Roger Martinez, Abdelkader is the leader with troops, who seeks promotion and encouragement. Yassir is looking for booty in order to go back home. Messaoud wants to exchange vows with a French woman and plans to settle in France. Sergeant Martinez instructs them before sending on their first mission. Their aim is to take over a Germans’ mountain which is defended heavily. The African troops ultimately succeed in their mission. While traveling to participate in Operation Dragoon, they aboard a ship where a white cook denies giving tomatoes to a black soldier. Later, they realize that the French soldiers are getting promotions. They are provided with better facilities, better food and they get leaves to make visit at home. Abdelkader asks for equality and the revolt averts when Martinew affirms that everyone will be given equal treatment. However, there is lots of difference between saying and doing.
