Plot : Burma VJ is a documentary, directed by Anders Østergaard. The film is about the revolt started by a group of Buddhist monks, who were later joined by 100,000 people, to protest against the oppressive and violent governance of the military regime in Burma. The military had usurped the power of the country in 1962, after overthrowing the elected prime minister, and had even placed Burma's press and mass media under the control of its dictatorship, leaving little scope for voicing dissent across the nation. Although, the official state media did not give much importance to the revolution, a new class of journalists called the Democratic Voice of Burma or Burma VJs, were ready to cover the revolution with their hand-held digital video cameras. The Burma VJs recorded the protests as well as the violent atrocities carried out by the police and military officials and then secretly sent the videos to colleagues in Thailand, who then forwarded the footage to various news networks across the globe
