Plot : The film is a romantic drama set in 1953, and is based on the novel of the same name. The film focuses on the lives of three Dutch women, namely: Marjorie, Ada and Esther. All three of them are on their way to New Zealand, to meet and marry their would-be husbands. The three women are officially leaving behind the trauma of post-war Holland. They have boarded the KLM plane, which wishes to win an air race from London in England to Christchurch in New Zealand in record time. In the flight, they develop a bond with a fellow traveler, Frank, who is on a quest of finding a better life in New Zealand. Frank has lost his family members in a terrible flood and wants to use his education ( he has a degree in agriculture) in New Zealand. In the flight, Frank is seated next to Ada and develops an instant affection for her, but Ada discloses that she is pregnant and is going to marry in New Zealand. In New Zealand, their lives get snarled up in relationships, family and adjusting in the new country. Eventually, they lose touch with each other, only to meet again after fifty years at Frank’s funeral. And there, they realize how much their lives are connected to each other, because of Frank.
