Plot : Will Burton (Gaelan Connell) is a teenager, passionate about music and idolizes David Bowie. He is happy to leave the bullying old schoolmates and switch to a new high school, when his single mother changes job and they move to a new town. There, he meets a girl with a usual name, Sam, but unusual spelling, Sa5m (Vanessa Hudgens). They become friends and Sa5m tells Will of ‘Bandslam’, which is the biggest music event of the year - a battle of the bands. Will is also befriended by Charlotte Banks (Alyson Michalka), a senior and a popular cheerleader at high school. She is out to do good for herself and the outcasts, by forsaking the ‘populars’ and mingling with the misfits, to gain esteem in her ailing father’s eyes. She forms a band ‘I can’t Go On, I’ll Go On’ with Will and, impressed with his diverse knowledge of music, makes him the manager and coach of the band. Repeatedly failing in his attempts to woo her, her jealous ex-boyfriend Scot Porter (Ben Wheatley) tries to defame Will, by digging out his past history, which would embarrass Will. Circumstances force Charlotte to quit the band just before the competition. Sa5m replaces her as the lead singer and sings ‘Everything I Own’ – a song that she had performed when she was younger. It doesn’t win them the trophy, but are rewarded by an unexpected deal landing in their lap.
