Plot : Armadillo is a heartrending account of the true picture of war, captured more candidly than ever. The movie is set in an Afghan military base, Armadillo, where a group of young Danish soldiers, spend each day in the proximity of death. The movie is filmed right where the action took place, hence making it a truly gripping war documentary. Apparently, the filmmakers put their life at risk, as they took candid shots of the action going on in the military camps. We get up, close and personal to the soldiers like never before, getting familiar with the most clandestine aspects of their lives. As the movie unfolds, one realizes that even though these men may put up the bravest of faces, as they fearlessly step forth to protect us, yet, deep down, they’re also human, like any of us. As they step onto the battlefield, amidst gunshots, they too dread the thought of being killed, like any ordinary man would. The movie shows us the vulnerable men, behind the façade of strength and invincibility. The Grand Prix awarded to the movie is a testimony of the impact that it has had. We get to witness the entire journey of a soldier, right from the moment when he says goodbye to his family, to when he, if lucky enough, returns home, with a heavy baggage of emotions, having undergone changes that make it impossible for him to live a normal life as an ordinary civilian, at least for a long time. As deep bonds are formed among the soldiers, only to be broken moments later, in the ruthless bloodshed, we realize that life in the army is not half as fancy as one may believe it to be.
