Plot : Women and tears seem to have a way of attracting themselves to each other, even in the happiest of situations. That is exactly what happens, when Lynn decides to visit her parent’s estate in Annapolis, with an aim to organize the marriage of her eldest son, Dylan, who has been estranged from the family. On the surface, Lynn appears to be a stable American woman, with control over her life and emotions. However, as the movie unfolds, we realize that the smiling face and the peaceful demeanor were a mere fa軋de. Director Sam Levinson manages to capture this woman’s emotions magnificently, carrying us away in her troubles, and making us empathize with her, for the endless woes that seem to shroud her life. What was meant to be a peaceful and nostalgic reunion, turns out to be a clash of contrasting personalities, with Lynn being at the epicenter of all the damage. It starts with her younger children, Elliot and Alice putting on their worst behavior, as they throw unexpected tantrums, becoming a cause of embarrassment and anguish for her. This is worsened by her parents, who seem too preoccupied with their own lives to have any time to listen to her. Her judgmental sisters and ex-husband do nothing to make things better, and her ex-husband’s hot-tempered second wife serves as the final nail in the coffin. Could things get any worse for Lynn?
