Plot : American Cowslip, a comedy flick directed by Mark David, is about a man who seeks salvation by trying to win the Garden of the Year contest. Ethan Inglebrink (Ronnie Gene Blevens), an eccentric and agoraphobic drug addict, explains his use of needles to his surrogate moms Roe (Diane Ladd), Sandy (Cloris Leachman), and Lou Anne (Lin Shaye) and his friends, by pretending to be a diabetic. His landlord and next-door neighbor, Trevor O'Hart (Rip Torn) would love to kick Ethan out on the street, while his elder brother Todd (Val Kilmer) hires the family priest to save his brother. With the Garden of the Year competition drawing nearer, Ethan however feels that if he can grow the rare and beautiful American Cowslip, his financial issues would be sorted out with the $10,000 top prize money. But to Ethan’s surprise, his salvation comes not from the money but the friendship and understanding he gets from Georgia (Hanna Hall), his 17-year-old neighbor, who is abused by her father (Bruce Dern).
