Plot : Set against the backdrop of beautiful ancient Egypt, the story of Agora revolves around astronomer Hypatia (Rachel Weisz), who teaches the theories of sun, stars and the earth to both, her Pagan and Christian disciples. Suddenly, the city gets engulfed in tensions, between the two sects. The director of the library, who is Hypatia’s father, wants Hypatia to become one of the religious leaders, but the masses are not ready to allow a woman to lead them. Hypatia is secretly loved by her slave, Davus (Max Minghella) and pupil Orestes (Oscar Isaac). Davus feels torn between the love for Hypatia and his being inspired by Christianity. While Christianity will give him freedom, it will take him away from his beloved. Hypatia, on the other hand is a Pagan, and has to fight for her religion. Several Christians are massacred, but the Pagans are later overcome by the remaining Christians. Hypatia, along with Davus and Orestes, hides in the library.
