Plot : Don’t let the basic plotline get to you; the rather overplayed consequences of the 9/11 tragedy are just a footnote in the whole story of a dental hygienist, Laura. Imagine a young exuberant woman, happy and content with her professional and personal life. Then imagine her with all the good things slipping away, and the stark, naked truth about the harsh realities of life staring at her. That is the story of Laura Pehlke in a nutshell. Set in the tragical aftermath of the 9//11 incident, the movie picks up pace when Laura comes to realize that her marriage to Bob has become a tense, barren affair; her son entering adolescence, and drifting away from her. Unable to confront the changing dynamics of her family life, Laura begins to slip back to her partying ways, without realizing the extent of her cluelessness. Caught off guard when she comes to know of Bob’s sudden demise, she is left in a state of shock. The storyline takes a cruel twist, as Laura’s life is overrun by the overbearing duo of her mother and sister, taking questionable decisions such as sending Dennis, her son, to a private school to compensate for his father’s loss! And that’s just the beginning of a series of cruel twists and turns in her life, which the movie presents in a very understated yet empathetic, somber yet light-hearted manner. No reason whatsoever for the viewers to refuse a chance to watch A Little Help online.
