Plot : Set in 1964, The Secret Life of Bees is adapted from the novel by Sue Monk Kidd that talks about a teenager who is haunted by the memory of her dead mother. Lily Owens (Dakota Fanning) is a 14-year old girl who tries unsuccessfully to put away the haunting memories of her dead mother. To escape from her uneasy relationship with her father and her lonely life, Lily runs away with her only friend named Rosaleen (Jennifer Hudson), who is also her caregiver, to South Carolina to learn more about the past of her mother. There the duo is taken in by the intelligent and independent three Boatwright sisters (Queen Latifah, Sophie Okonedo, and Alicia Keys) whose mesmerizing world of beekeeping, helps Lily forget her sorrows and learn important lessons of life.
