Plot : The Merry Gentleman, the directorial debut venture of Michael Keaton, tells the tale of a woman who runs away from an abusive marriage and moves into a new city with the hope of starting her life afresh.Kate Frazier (Kelly Macdonald) hopes to start a new life by getting a new home and a new job in Chicago. Then, she accidentally meets Frank Logan (Michael Keaton), who unknown to her, is a hit man and suffers from a lingering disease that has put him in a state of suicidal depression. The two, unexpectedly, find fulfillment in their mutually shared silence. The growing friendship between the two is further strengthened by their need of survival as the unlikely allies strive to help each other evolve into what they need to be. However, the blissful time passes too soon as the pasts of both Kate and Frank catch up with them and the unfolding events reveal a painful truth.
