Plot : Centering on Nicole Beharie as Dee Roberts and directed by Tim Disney, American Violet is the true story of a Texas based 24 year old American African single mother. Dee has four children and she works at the local diner. One day, while she is at work, Dee becomes victim of a drug bust being lead by the powerful local district attorney (Michael O'Keefe). She is dragged to women’s county prison and within no time, Dee discovers that she has been charged as a drug dealer. She has nothing to do with drugs and even no drugs are found at her place, but still she is given a chance to make a choice between a pleading guilty and going home as a convicted felon or staying in prison and putting the custody of her kids in jeopardy. Dee out rightly rejects plea-bargains against the wishes of her mother Alma (Alfre Woodard) and decides to go against the district attorney. Would she be able to bring a change into the Texas judicial system, when everything including her life is on risk ?
